Pedestrianise or not? This topic section aims to provide resources to support teaching of the unit 'Should the High Street be Closed to Traffic?'
Interesting website aimed at adult readers, based on saving a nature reserve in North Derbyshire (Tintwistle) from being affected by the A628 bypass proposals. Various links to other sites. (The bypass is meant to take traffic off two High Streets, in Mottram and Hollingworth.)

Some good key questions in this simple PowerPoint introduction to the topic. Suggests avenues of investigation. Our link goes straight to the PowerPoint file on the LearnAnywhere site.

A simple article outlining some pros and cons about a Saturday pedestrianisation of a normal High Street, in this case Ely. Could be used as a comprehension exercise.
Just check this before you allow children to visit it - there are user comments at the bottom of the page and we suppose somebody could add a rude remark.
