Maps

Physical, political, Ordnance Survey, you'll find many different maps for use here. There's even outline maps, old maps and flags of the world too!

An archive of old maps from the UK

Type your location in and see your chosen area when it were just fields and a couple of barns. This site can sometimes be a bit slow to load (probably busy) but it gets there in the end. Please don't report the link as broken unless you are sure!

Basic political detail maps

Rather a lot of adverts on this site now. Just make sure you know what Google Ads look like and avoid them on the page. Still useful. If you were looking at Kenya, for example, you'd probably want a basic map outline with the main cities and towns marked. This is a great site - the maps aren't crystal clear when resized - but they'll certainly do if you plan to use them on the whiteboard. Great for finding country capitals. Also a map of time zones may support maths lessons.

We thought it would be good to add this one here. Know your Union Flag from your Tricolor! Looks basic, but keep the faith, this site comes up with the goods every time we've used it.

Physical maps of the world and countries

We do love this! Simple enough for school use and very clear too! Shows physical features. We were so impressed that you could zoom to home countries level on the UK map. The rivers such as Thames and Trent are named -as too are the mountainous areas like the Pennines. It also showed the major cities and the capital. Major seas and oceans are labelled - as well as islands. We reckon this is one of our top map websites ever - perfect for primary school children. Although you can copy and paste the UK maps into documents etc... we found that some of the maps would not copy in the conventional way. You can always use the site directly though!

This is suitable for very confident ICT users. You will need to register to gain access to this stupendous game. The original classic Sim city is perfect for modelling activites, creating maps, problem solving, would fit nicely into environmental topics if you were able to present children with a pre-created city or town and ask them to make choices as to where the place a road etc... Simple map of Europe

The title says it all. Seas all labelled but countries are not - I can feel a copy/paste into Word, photocopy then label activity coming on here folks... actually it would be just as useful if copied into your interactive white board software and labelled virtually instead.
