Barnaby Bear is standing on the top of Arthur's Seat, the highest hill in Edinburgh. He meets a guide called Sarah and learns that the hill he is standing on and all the rocks he can see around Edinburgh were created by volcanoes 350 million years ago. Edinburgh castle sits on part of the volcano, which is now extinct.

Teaching Volcanoes? Suppose you'll want a 3D cross section, revolving globe with active volcanoes marked on, perhaps you like to start your own eruption in an animation? You want alot! But this site gives you all of the above. It's exactly the type resource we'd use all the way through any Volcanoes topic.

A great site. Using a little magic from run-of-the-mill kitchen chemicals - you and your students can make their own little Vesuvius. Please read all school policies with the aid of a great lawyer before you set out.

Images and text for upper KS2. This features the bodies covered in ash and explains what it must have been like at the time. A really useful resource - the photos are the star attraction here.

A great map of Volcanoes and lots of data including names and dates of eruptions. There is a weekly / monthly report and lots of photos of the craters, cones and lava domes. The photos of underwater erruptions making new islands are really dazzling.

Great site to support teachers and upper KS2. Links to Volcano based sites from around the world. We like the Students section to the left where there are explanations and a useful and exhaustive glossary.
